Outside of Christ, we cannot have true rest that overcomes our difficult circumstances, fears, or struggles. We can&#39;t find it in the world, we even can&#39;t find it in each other. I liked to BE SEEN building houses and playing with the kids. (Glory that is A. Not mine and B. A food that perishes) God taught me through these service opportunities to have a servants heart and to give all the glory to Him. A couple weeks ago I participated in Olathe Serve Day. I prayed hard about lending a hand for the right reasons, and had a great experience.<br /><br /> At church on Sunday a picture of me was plastered on the big screens: I looked sweaty, disgusting, and happy. I was also greatly encouraged not only by Doug&#39;s talk, but his tremendous example. He has clearly been living what he was preaching and his life shows a lot of intentionality as a result.<br /><br />Its so great to hear that you and Christy are memorizing Colossians 3 and seeing such fruit from becoming intimately familiar with it. I know there are several others that decided to do that around the time we were studying Col 3 together on Tuesdays. I&#39;m hoping that trend will continue as we study other passages this summer. I think that doing things just because we are supposed to is something we all struggle with, but learning why we are called to do them allows us the opportunity to learn and grow through the experience.<br /><br />I have been learning a lot through looking into Luke 6:32-36. It says, &quot;If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners expecting to be repaid in full. But LOVE your enemies, do GOOD to them and lend to them WITHOUT EXPECING TO GET ANYTHING BACK. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. BE MERCIFUL JUST AS YOUR FATHER IS MERCIFUL.”<br /><br />I think verse along with Michelle and Kris’ actions show practical ways to love mercy so much that it spills out into the way we respond towards others. We are called to love those who do not treat us the way we wish they would and to love mercy so much so that we are good to those who justly do not deserve it. When we do these things, Luke promises that the reward will be great. I had an amazing realization yesterday when I was focusing on loving mercy: I was praying for God to show me mercy not really knowing where to start or what God had in store for me. I didn&#39;t have to look very far. My father has been an alcoholic since before I can remember. He was never around and threatened to tear my family apart on multiple occasions. He recently got back from rehab and has been doing great, sadly I have been walking around with the attitude of &quot;its too good to be true&quot; and being cold to him, instead of just loving mercy and forgiving him. Forgiving him is something I have struggled with for a very long time because simply &quot;forgiving him because I should&quot; didn&#39;t seem just to me (I wanted justification instead of to ACT justly, see, it all ties in!). Now I know that loving mercy is something required of me and it isn&#39;t simply forgiveness for forgiveness sake. Praise God for showing me this!
